The thing about cultists, is that they don't see themselves as ideologues. They see their perspective as a given — so much so, that their entire belief system is rendered invisible to them until challenged. So trying to explain to them that their beliefs are indeed BELIEFS, and not FACTS, is like trying to describe water to a fish. They're so in it that they're unconscious of it, taking it entirely for granted... until they are brought into the suffocating realm of air.
I think this is why people do-not-compute my claim that the COVID vaccine is a religious sacrament, the religion being Transhumanism. They don't even see themselves as "Transhumanists." To them, it's simply a given that: if a vaccine exists, it should be taken; if nature is circulating a virus, everyone should withdraw from the outside world; if a technology is new, it must be progressive; and if a scientist said it, it must be true.
This is what makes it so damn hard to get through to them. To challenge their worldview is to embark on a fool's journey of endlessly deconstructing deeper and deeper levels of their ideological foundation, until they have nothing left to stand on — and then they see YOU as the reason they feel unstable (rather than the unstable foundation itself).
Do you think people saw themselves as "geocentrists" before Galileo came along and proposed the heliocentric model? No, they saw geocentrism as being self-evident.... which then justified their disproportionate rage at the new heliocentric perspective.
This is the danger of identifying with ideas. Once an idea becomes your identity, a challenge to that idea feels like a vicious murder attempt on your very sense of Self. It might as well be a knife attack.
To an ideologue, "cognitive dissonance" doesn't register as an indicator of internal incongruence, but as the result of an external enemy. And once you've accepted the premise that a non-believer is "attacking" you (by simply seeing the world differently), you can literally attacking them back. You're just acting in Self defense, after all.
This is exactly what we're seeing on the world stage, with open calls for "anti-vaxxers" and "the unvaccinated" to be excommunicated, fired, imprisoned and even killed.
Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink...
