This is part of an emerging paradigm of individualism, which in itself is quite laudable. However, it's being used against us by the neo-Liberals and their control of the military-industrial complex. Since Reagan and Thatcher brought this into our economy, wages and lifestyles have plummeted, with the reduction of the Middle Class. We have to bring the social structure back into the conversation; that the evaluation of the individual be strengthened through the potency of all people having opportunity to express these inner drives.
