Thank you very much for this eye-opener. Learning to transform ourselves and learning to see through the eyes of love, that is indeed the panacea, the universal medicine.
Alicen, this very wise and very relatable explanation for how the version of the world we experience originates with us resonated with me deeply. I want to remember that whenever I fear the judgment of others, I will be tempted to see only their lack and malice, thereby reducing them to the worst version of themselves. Recognizing this as the source of evil is bracing. It inspires me to renew my commitment to seeing myself and others through the eyes of love and acceptance. I think I’ll post an image of your evil eye meme on my bathroom mirror so I am constantly reminded of this profound truth. Thank you for sharing your truth!
Thank you Katie for sharing this post with me! It's so funny that I made a similar point in a video about the Evil Eye--the talismans are to keep you from turning it on yourself. Here's a quote from it: "I confess that envy is my go-to deadly sin. I look at Natalie Wynn's definition of how envy differs from jealousy, and the relationship of the evil eye to lockdown virtue-signaling. I use the hamsa, the eye in the hand, to show how we could ward off the evil eye by turning away negativity both within ourselves and against others."
This being talked about must be part of why the big swing towards authenticity is happening. Everyone says to tell your failures, vulnerability, realness online for success- or lasting success because you are skating by like “hey I’m just like you” but really 😏
Thank you. I love how encouraging this essay is without pulling any punches... firmly reminding us to reclaim/rediscover our inherent, God-given gifts and live accordingly. 🙏

I embedded the pre-Substack video in a more recent post on Envy & Russell Brand, because I think envy is a factor in the independent media cancelling of him: https://thirdparadigm.substack.com/p/envy-and-russell-brand.
Glad to be thinking in tandem with your perceptive mind, Alicen!
