I have already belabored this point in previous posts, but I will continue to belabor it because it’s fundamental to understanding how our modern culture devolved into a tar pit of psychic sludge:
🔊 THE EXISTENCE OF THE GREY AREA DOES NOT NEGATE THE EXISTENCE OF BLACK AND WHITE. 🔊
What do I mean by that?
Okay. Here we go:
I have observed so many spiritual people get sucked into this self-cannibalizing way of thinking, wherein opposites are undifferentiated.
For example, they’ll say, “Creation is actually Destruction.”
Or, “Life is actually Death.”
Or, “Good is actually Evil.”
…which seems, like, ~compelling~ at first. (“How interesting! Tell me more!”)
But if you just sit back and observe what this seemingly harmless belief can do to a person’s psyche, you’ll see some of the brightest, most powerful mages become fully-possessed, self-destructing psychotics in the time it takes to teleport (which is “no time,” for you hylics reading).
Listen, I say this with all the seriousness of a mage who’s seen Wayyy Too Much:
There are grave consequences to inverting the Truth.
And defining something as its own opposite? Well, that’s Inversion.
You might as well say Black is White, Up is Down, Slavery is Freedom and Ignorance is Strength!
As a permanent resident of The Grey Area, I can see why people start denying the existence of opposites altogether once introduced to nuance.
It’s not always clear what’s Good and what’s Evil.
There are plenty of reasons for this: Sometimes we hurt people by accident. We have good intentions but can’t always foresee the outcomes of our actions. We repeat the negative behavioral patterns we’ve inherited from our families. We have Shadows but don’t know that we have them, let alone how to integrate them.
And on, and on.
But the existence of ethical “grey areas” doesn’t mean there are no ethics at all.
Likewise: The fact that Death and Life tend to interlock in what looks like a natural cycle, doesn’t mean that Death is Life.
Life has intrinsic qualities that differentiate it from the intrinsic qualities of Death. Life is animated, fulfilled and enriched… while Death is inert, somber and hollow.
It is true that those qualities sometimes blur together, such as in instances of comatose or Near Death Experiences. But does that mean everything that’s alive is also, simultaneously, dead? No.
So, to say “Life is actually Death” is an inversion of Life.
I mean, we know this. I doubt anybody out there can really look at a wide-eyed, bouncing little baby and say “Yeah that thing’s straight necrotic” LOL.
And yet, this paradigm of Inversion has been spreading across the globe like a mental virus, covertly infecting intelligent people with non-sense. I see Inversion everywhere from spiritual circles (“Creation is Destruction”) to sociopolitics (“Men can be Women”).
And what is Inversion, if not a total loss of Discernment?
Discernment is the key to living a righteous life. It’s how you choose your actions, your path, your friends, your lovers, your words… just about everything that determines your quality of life & your impact on the world.
Without discernment, we degenerate — and by consequence, our culture at large degenerates.
The wily thing about Discernment is that you need to have it to know whether you have it or not.
So in order to avoid having Inversion be the basis of your reality, your belief system must rest on a foundation of valuing Truth.
And you can find out whether you’ve made Inversion or Truth your foundation by asking yourself,
“Is Truth the same as Deception?”
If the answer is no, there’s your starting point for making sense of reality.
If the answer is yes,
well,
good luck.
gray does not negate that white is not black
beautiful words
I often have found myself lost in inversion, lost in nondeterminism. I am lost.
but being lost means one is looking for a way
and I'm not lost in many ways either
i know love is one certain thing I want to pursue
some things can be and not at the same time, but that does not mean that truth is falsehood
it means that language needs nuance, and sometimes perception changes with perspective
chaos is beautiful and creative
it is also horrific and destructive
but this statement requires unfolding
because it is not enough, what I have said here
and it never will
Thank you for this crucial reminder to practice discernment. I can always count on you to provoke and inspire new thoughts! 😻
