We were promised hover cars.
Speculating on Life-Generating (a.k.a. Free Energy) Transportation
I think a lot about cars.
Not because I want to, really. But because, how can I not? I drive every day.
I avoided learning to drive well into my late 20s, gripped by driving anxiety and wielding my New Yorker status like a shield against my critics (“New Yorkers don’t drive!!!”)
When I finally did start learning a few years ago, I was promised by relatives and friends that I’d come to loOoOove driving.
And now that I drive every day, I can admit: I do love the convenience, and I do love having more independence.
But I still do not love “driving,” nor do I love “cars.”
In fact, I believe more wholeheartedly than ever that cars are a scourge upon the earth, an abomination to God, and a man-made horror beyond our comprehension.
Allow me to elaborate…
Years ago, while still gripped by driving anxiety, I wrote a status proclaiming that, “For reasons unbeknownst to me, I would feel more comfortable learning to ride a horse.”
Now that I have my license, those reasons are no longer “unbeknownst” to me. Now they’re beknownst, LOL.
The main reason is: the roadkill.
“Roadkill.” What a terrible word. As if my brother Mr. Squirrel was not a living, breathing being before some car mercilessly crushed him and then continued driving because, you know, getting to work on time is more important than an innocent life!
My brother Mr. Squirrel is not “road-kill.” He does not belong to the road, and the beauty of his life could never be reduced to the moment he was killed.
Y’all, I’m actually about to cry as I write this.
I am clearly just a whiny, oversensitive girlchild posing as a grown woman. All I ever do is complain about how smartphones are evil, and we used to build cathedrals, AND WHERE IS THE UTOPIAN PORN?! 😡😡😡(😭)
But really. Have you thought about this?
If we (The Human Collective) really, truly valued LIFE! — the ultimate gift from God! — our technology would reflect that value…
…and our current transportation technology would be unconscionable.
“Unconscionable,” meaning, we would not even be able to conceive of a technology so ruthlessly, feelinglessly cruel.
If we truly valued Life…
…we would have never let cars, in their current form, hit the market.
If there were even a chance that you might accidentally smash a bug on your windshield, driving over 30mph would simply not be allowed.
If there were even a chance that you might kill your sister Miss Possum or cousin Mr Turtle on your commute to work, we would’ve waited until we had hover cars — which wouldn’t even have tires that could roll over an innocent being’s body — before transitioning away from riding horses.
If there were even a chance that you might hit a pedestrian a person, cars would have been designed with, say, a magnetic repulsion feature that senses the oncoming collision and automatically propels your vehicle away from whatever (or whoever) you were about to hit.
And don’t even get me started on the dangers of car exhaust fumes, the wastefulness of car manufacturing, or the blind destructiveness of car-centered infrastructure.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
I’m going to Utopia.
Utopia is my Reason-for-Everything. It’s my #1 motivator. Whenever I’m trying to solve a problem, I ask “How would this be solved in Utopia?” then work my way back from there.
I think a Utopian would be spiritually advanced enough to just fly, teleport and bilocate everywhere — by the power of their spiritual energy, not material means.
But until I cultivate enough prana to know how to do that, I’m trying to appreciate the solutions people are coming up with here in the material world:
There are movements devoted to increasing public transit options, to reduce the number of passenger vehicles on the road.
There are pro-bicycle activists who encourage people to get around on pure kinetic energy.
There are places where wildlife crossings provide animals with a safe place to cross roads, which is nice:

ALIENS!!!
And, of course, there are UFOs, which are essentially levitating biospheres that hover over the ground.
I haven’t yet figured out the totality of my feelings towards outer-space aliens.
Are they evil invaders, hell-bent on planetary takeover?
Are they evolved humans from the future, time-traveling backwards to share knowledge with us?
Are any of them good?
Am I one of them?
I don’t know any of those answers, but I do know that UFOs seem to operate on Free Energy — which is the operant power of Utopia.
What comes to mind now is a sentiment I read in Amazing Grace by David Wolfe and Nick Good, where they argue (and I’m paraphrasing from memory) that:
We are afraid of aliens and UFOs because, in our current state of consciousness (which is characterized by selfishness, greed and narcissism), it’s inconceivable that a race of beings could evolve to the point of having flying vehicles, and that they travel space out of curiosity, simply wanting to know more about the cosmos and meet their interstellar brethren.
When we see alien UFOs appear in the sky, we can’t imagine that their intentions are good, because if we were to suddenly find ourselves in possession of their advanced technology, we would use it for selfish reasons.
We project evil intent onto them because we have evil intent — and that’s our shadow to eliminate.
I won’t pretend I approve of all the awful things I’ve heard about aliens doing on those UFOs,
BUT,
I do agree with the idea that we see the world as we are.
So of course most people regard UFOs with suspicion and anxiety. “We can’t trust the aliens! They might treat us like animals!!!” we say, as we drive our squirrel-slaughtering cars, and fail to see the irony. 😐
Our shadow to eliminate is the-shadow-of-not-caring-enough to find, or invent, non-violent means of travel.
Our shadow to eliminate is our collective okay-ness with killing innocent beings.
I’m certain that we have a higher spiritual potential that is being eclipsed by that shadow — and that greater cosmic peace awaits us, in the light.

Bravo! 👏 As you well know, I share your disdain for cars and car culture.
I hope you don't mind me adding a personal touch from my working-class, blue-collar, material world, NYC upbringing. All the guys I knew were programmed very early with Matchbox, Hot Wheels, the Batmobile, and more to worship internal combustion engine vehicles. As we got closer to our late teens, so much time and energy was squandered in dreams and conversations about owning, driving, fixing, racing, and showing off a car.
Such an intense dose of propaganda and conditioning, of course, is designed to make a massive profit while making it unlikely that anyone would reach the conclusions you articulate in this excellent post. So here we are, living in a culture that has turned a scourge upon the earth, an abomination to God, and a man-made horror beyond our comprehension into a lucrative, popular "sport."
I could go on, but...
tl;dr: I pray many others will follow your lead in identifying and addressing their shadow to eliminate.
